Healing Arts Workshops are designed to help in the recovery of people with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The workshops allow students to develop their creative and expressive skills and abilities in a structured and supportive atmosphere. With the guidance of the group leaders, students will work on a range of creative arts projects.
About Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Brain injury often results in a combination of physical, cognitive and emotional changes that can leave survivors feeling frustrated and discouraged.
In addition to traditional rehabilitation therapies, individuals can use creative arts activities to challenge their abilities and further develop skills in areas including attention, language, memory, visual-motor skills, and executive functions (such as planning and organizing).
Using creative arts as a means of expression can also be a strategy for relaxation, stress manage-ment and coping with the challenges of living with brain injury
Healing Arts Workshops will include activities in the following areas:
Visual Arts: Students will work on expression through painting, drawing, collage and sculpture.
Creative Writing: Students will use their experiences to explore poetry, storytelling and/or journaling.
Drama:Students will participate in acting and theater exercises, including monologues, dialogues and dramatic scenes.
Music:Students will explore musical expression through voice/song and percussion instruments.
Activities and exercises will be tailored to the unique strengths and abilities of each student.
